Abstract

Immunization is probably the most effective and economical method of preventive medicine at our disposal. Like all preventive measures, however, it must be used with care. This article outlines the use of vaccines for various illnesses, and describes methods, indications and contraindications, with particular reference to the newer vaccines. Particular mention is made of when to vaccinate, when not to vaccinate, and what to do under certain emergency conditions.
