Abstract

This article focuses on the personal stories, in their own words, of those affected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV does not discriminate, as is noted by the diversity of these personal perspectives. The authors hope that the reader will understand the many complex and varied issues that need to be addressed on an individual basis in assessment and treatment of people with HIV. There are no stereotypes of people with HIV. There are only human beings requiring dignified and respectful care and support.
