Abstract

'Basic research literacy is an essential prerequisite of knowledge-led practice. Nurses, health visitors and midwives need an understanding of the research process, the ability to retrieve and critically assess research findings and literature and, through these skills, the capacity to help define research problems, agenda and priorities'. So says the recent report of the Government's Taskforce on nursing research ( 1 ).
