Abstract

I have recently completed five weeks of community experience - two weeks with the health visitor and three with the district nurse. I found it to be a valuable experience in that it taught me that my patient was a person and not 'the cholecystectomy' or 'the leg ulcer'. Before my community experience I did not realise how little I thought about the patient as a home owner with a family, or in some cases, without a family.
