Angela M Locks, Sandra R Gregerman

UIID-AD: 30

Abstract

This chapter describes the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) at the University of Michigan. After describing the institutional context of the program, the authors outline the program rationale, which was to encourage retention among historically underrepresented students in science, technology, engineering, and math. Benefits of undergraduate research are discussed and the UROP program components are provided. Assessment and evaluation methods are noted.
