The geosciences are not very good at attracting, retaining, and supporting a diverse group of students and professionals. Many of the attempts to change this situation use" high-impact practices"-activities such as internships, undergraduate research, international study, and experiential learning such as field work-and make those opportunities available to a broad range of students.
