Abstract

The word interpersonal refers to personal or social relations out of which systems of shared expectations develop. This paper addresses nurses' readiness to meet the challenges of the 80's, from the interpersonal perspective of shared expectations, both among nurses and between nursing and society. The author proposes that nurses' expectations are divergent rather than shared and focuses on historical and current concerns which have led to the divergent expectations.
