Assessment of a Competency-Based Undergraduate Course on Genetics and Genomics.

Nurse educator

Kronk R, Colbert A, Lengetti E.
PMID: 28837438
Nurse Educ. 2018 Jul/Aug;43(4):201-205. doi: 10.1097/NNE.0000000000000443.

In response to new demands in the nursing profession, an innovative undergraduate genetics course was designed based on the Essential Nursing Competencies and Curricula Guidelines for Genetics and Genomics. Reflective journaling and storytelling were used as major pedagogies, alongside...

Proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits of lambda chains.

Proceedings (Baylor University. Medical Center)

Panezai MA, Zhang P, Colbert GB.
PMID: 29706814
Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2018 Mar 12;31(2):187-188. doi: 10.1080/08998280.2018.1435116. eCollection 2018 Apr.

Increasingly, monoclonal gammopathies of renal significance (MGRS) are being described as unique, distinct disease states. We describe a type of MGRS with proliferative glomerular lesions with monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits of rarely reported IgG2 lambda chains.

THE USE OF SERIAL PLATELET RICH PLASMA INJECTIONS WITH EARLY REHABILITATION TO EXPEDITE GRADE III MEDIAL COLLATERAL LIGAMENT INJURY IN A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE: A CASE REPORT.

International journal of sports physical therapy

Bagwell MS, Wilk KE, Colberg RE, Dugas JR.
PMID: 30038838
Int J Sports Phys Ther. 2018 Jun;13(3):520-525.

BACKGROUND: Medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries are one of the most commonly treated knee pathologies in sports medicine. The MCL serves as the primary restraint to valgus force. The large majority of these injuries do not require surgical intervention.CASE...

Diversity and composition of gut microbiome of cervical cancer patients: Do results of 16S rRNA sequencing and whole genome sequencing approaches align?.

Journal of microbiological methods

Biegert G, El Alam MB, Karpinets T, Wu X, Sims TT, Yoshida-Court K, Lynn EJ, Yue J, Medrano AD, Petrosino J, Mezzari MP, Ajami NJ, Solley T, Ahmed-Kaddar M, Klopp AH, Colbert LE.
PMID: 33785357
J Microbiol Methods. 2021 Jun;185:106213. doi: 10.1016/j.mimet.2021.106213. Epub 2021 Mar 27.

BACKGROUND: Next generation sequencing has progressed rapidly, characterizing microbial communities beyond culture-based or biochemical techniques. 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing (16S) produces reliable taxonomic classifications and relative abundances, while shotgun metagenome sequencing (WMS) allows higher taxonomic and functional resolution...

Generation of hiPSC line UMi030-A from an individual with the hearing loss-related GJB2 mutation c.109G > A.

Stem cell research

Colbert BM, Gosstola NC, Dykxhoorn DM, Zhong Liu X.
PMID: 34883447
Stem Cell Res. 2021 Dec 03;58:102599. doi: 10.1016/j.scr.2021.102599. Epub 2021 Dec 03.

Genetic variants in the GJB2 gene which encodes for the Connexin 26 protein account for ∼ 60% of cases of genetic hearing loss. A novel hiPSC line was generated from an individual with the hearing loss-related variant c.109G >...

Update and review of contrast-associated acute kidney injury.

Disease-a-month : DM

Colbert GB, Patel TK, Gaddy A, Lerma E.
PMID: 34304868
Dis Mon. 2022 Jan;68(1):101272. doi: 10.1016/j.disamonth.2021.101272. Epub 2021 Jul 22.

Contrast associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) is a controversial subject in the field of nephrology, cardiology, radiology and hospital medicine. Much has been written and published concerning the causes, risk factors, outcomes, and potential treatments to avoid the ultimate...

Validating cell-free DNA from supernatant for molecular diagnostics on cytology specimens.

Cancer cytopathology

Perrone ME, Alvarez R, Vo TT, Chung MW, Chhieng DC, Paulson VA, Colbert BG, Q Konnick E, Huang EC.
PMID: 34265180
Cancer Cytopathol. 2021 Dec;129(12):956-965. doi: 10.1002/cncy.22491. Epub 2021 Jul 15.

BACKGROUND: Cytology specimens are often used for biomarker testing in the setting of neoplasia. On occasion, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) cell blocks unfortunately may not yield sufficient material for testing. Recent studies have suggested that residual supernatant fluid from cell...

Biology of the Radio- and Chemo-Responsiveness in HPV Malignancies.

Seminars in radiation oncology

Spiotto MT, Taniguchi CM, Klopp AH, Colbert LE, Lin SH, Wang L, Frederick MJ, Osman AA, Pickering CR, Frank SJ.
PMID: 34455983
Semin Radiat Oncol. 2021 Oct;31(4):274-285. doi: 10.1016/j.semradonc.2021.02.009.

In multiple anatomic sites, patients with cancers associated with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) experience better locoregional control and overall survival after radiotherapy and/or chemoradiotherapy than patients with HPV-negative cancers. These improved outcomes suggest that relatively unique biological features in...

Children with enthesitis-related arthritis could benefit from treatments targeted for adults with spondyloarthritis.
