Complete Genome Sequences for Two Strains of a Novel Fastidious, Partially Acid-Fast, Gram-Positive Corynebacterineae Bacterium, Derived from Human Clinical Samples.

Genome announcements

PMID: 26659691
Genome Announc. 2015 Dec 10;3(6). doi: 10.1128/genomeA.01462-15.

Here we report the complete genome sequences of two strains of the novel fastidious, partially acid-fast, Gram-positive bacillus "Lawsonella clevelandensis" (proposed). Their clinical relevance and unusual growth characteristics make them intriguing candidates for whole-genome sequencing.

Genome Sequences of Oblitimonas alkaliphila gen. nov. sp. nov. (Proposed), a Novel Bacterium of the Pseudomonadaceae Family.

Genome announcements

PMID: 26679585
Genome Announc. 2015 Dec 17;3(6). doi: 10.1128/genomeA.01474-15.

Results obtained through 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phenotypic testing of eight related, but unidentified, isolates located in a historical collection at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested that these isolates belong to a novel genera of...

Hypertension presenting early in pregnancy.

Clinical case reports

PMID: 26734147
Clin Case Rep. 2015 Nov 05;3(12):1056-7. doi: 10.1002/ccr3.392. eCollection 2015 Dec.

Paraganglioma in pregnancy is an exceedingly rare and potentially life-threatening diagnosis. It is important that the clinicians consider secondary causes when women present with hypertension in early pregnancy.

Ultrastructural adaptations for viviparity in the female reproductive system of gyrodactylid monogeneans.

Tissue & cell

Cable J, Harris PD, Tinsley RC.
PMID: 18621336
Tissue Cell. 1996 Oct;28(5):515-26. doi: 10.1016/s0040-8166(96)80054-1.

The female reproductive system of viviparous monogeneans (Gyrodactylus and Macrogyrodactylus) has been examined using fluorescence microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The female system is tubular, made up of a thin-walled proximal seminal receptacle/ootype and a distal uterus, separated by...

Quantifying the transmissibility of human influenza and its seasonal variation in temperate regions.

PLoS Curr. 2009 Oct 29;1:RRN1125. doi: 10.1371/currents.RRN1125.

Seasonal influenza has considerable impact around the world, both economically and in mortality among risk groups. The long term patterns of disease are hard to capture with simple models, while the interplay of epidemiological processes with antigenic evolution makes...

We investigate the origin and evolution of spatiotemporal complexity in a system of locally coupled Belousov-Zhabotinsky chemical oscillators. Using a combination of high resolution microscopy and fine grain numerical modeling, we demonstrate that the behavior arises from an initial...

Postoperative cervical haematoma complicated by ipsilateral carotid thrombosis and aphasia after anterior cervical fusion: a case report.

Case reports in medicine

Chin KR, Seale J, Butron V, Cumming V.

Case Rep Med. 2013;2013:590639. doi: 10.1155/2013/590639. Epub 2013 Mar 07.

Hematoma alone is the most common vascular complication reported after anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF). We present this case to report the occurrence of postoperative cervical hematoma complicated by ipsilateral carotid thrombosis and aphasia after an uncomplicated C4-6...

Catecholamine depletion with alpha-methylparatyrosine (AMPT) has previously been shown to induce depressive symptoms in currently remitted patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) but not healthy controls. Thus sensitivity to catecholamine depletion has been hypothesized to be an endophenotype of...
