Abstract
This issue of ETS Policy Notes (Volume 12, No. 1) examines the underrepresentation of African Americans in medical school, focusing on trends in enrollment and graduation at all levels of education. The issue explores African American college students' interest in the medical profession, their pursuit of degrees in biological sciences, and the growing gender differences in educational attainment within the African American community as well as the broader community. It also explores the education pipeline from early schooling through college to see where improvements must be made to enlarge the pool of qualified prospects for entry into professions such as medicine, a very small and elite end of the education pipeline.
