Strong antiferromagnetic exchange between manganese phthalocyanine and ferromagnetic europium oxide.

Chemical communications (Cambridge, England)

Wäckerlin C, Donati F, Singha A, Baltic R, Uldry AC, Delley B, Rusponi S, Dreiser J.
PMID: 26171839
Chem Commun (Camb). 2015 Aug 21;51(65):12958-61. doi: 10.1039/c5cc01823d.

We report on the antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between a submonolayer of Mn(II)-phthalocyanine molecules and a ferromagnetic Eu(II)-oxide thin film. The exchange energy is larger by nearly two orders of magnitude compared to previous studies involving oxidic substrates.

Post-transplantation nephroptosis causing recurrent episodes of acute renal failure and hypertension secondary to intermittent vascular torsion of intraperitoneal renal allograft.

Journal of surgical case reports

Dosch AR, Pahl M, Reddy U, Foster CE, Ichii H.
PMID: 28560019
J Surg Case Rep. 2017 May 02;2017(5):rjx033. doi: 10.1093/jscr/rjx033. eCollection 2017 May.

Nephroptosis is a rare complication in renal transplantation, but one with significant associated risk. Due to non-specific clinical features, there may be a substantial delay in diagnosis and loss of the transplanted kidney due to renal pedicle thrombosis. We...

Mythbusters: The Case for Retirement Income in DC Plans.

Benefits quarterly

Austin R, Shepherd S.
PMID: 27017796
Benefits Q. 2016;32(1):27-31.

Myths persist about retirement income solutions in defined contribution (DC) plans. The authors put six common myths to the test: (1) that few plans offer a retirement income option, (2) that retirement is solely a product decision, (3) that...

Flagellar membranes are rich in raft-forming phospholipids.

Biology open

Serricchio M, Schmid AW, Steinmann ME, Sigel E, Rauch M, Julkowska D, Bonnefoy S, Fort C, Bastin P, Bütikofer P.
PMID: 26276100
Biol Open. 2015 Aug 14;4(9):1143-53. doi: 10.1242/bio.011957.

The observation that the membranes of flagella are enriched in sterols and sphingolipids has led to the hypothesis that flagella might be enriched in raft-forming lipids. However, a detailed lipidomic analysis of flagellar membranes is not available. Novel protocols...

Tensor representation of spin States.

Physical review letters

PMID: 25768738
Phys Rev Lett. 2015 Feb 27;114(8):080401. doi: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.114.080401. Epub 2015 Feb 25.

We propose a generalization of the Bloch sphere representation for arbitrary spin states. It provides a compact and elegant representation of spin density matrices in terms of tensors that share the most important properties of Bloch vectors. Our representation,...

Reprint of: Dream vs. reality: seven case-studies on the desirability and feasibility of cross-border hospital collaboration in Europe.

Social science & medicine (1982)

Glinos IA, Baeten R.
PMID: 25496663
Soc Sci Med. 2015 Jan;124:331-7. doi: 10.1016/j.socscimed.2014.11.057. Epub 2014 Dec 05.

Despite being a niche phenomenon, cross-border health care collaboration receives a lot of attention in the EU and figures visibly on the policy agenda, in particular since the policy process which eventually led to the adoption of Directive 2011/24/EU....

A soluble-polymer system for the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones.

The Journal of organic chemistry

Bastin S, Eaves RJ, Edwards CW, Ichihara O, Whittaker M, Wills M.
PMID: 15287789
J Org Chem. 2004 Aug 06;69(16):5405-12. doi: 10.1021/jo049479u.

The appropriate combination of methacrylate polymers permits the synthesis of a soluble polymer for use in ruthenium(II)-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reactions. Using a 7:3 copolymer of a poly(ethylene glycol) ester and a hydroxyethyl ester, a derived ruthenium(II)/norephedrine complex catalyses...

Photon-activation analysis of caesium.

Talanta

Persianl C, Spira J, Bastian R.
PMID: 18960133
Talanta. 1967 May;14(5):565-73. doi: 10.1016/0039-9140(67)80242-x.

The corrosive behaviour of caesium has been attributed in part to the presence of a non-metallic impurity such as oxygen. A photon-activation method for determining oxygen and carbon in caesium is described. Scintillation coincidence-counting and pulseheight discrimination are used...
